My Friendship Candle Mats pattern includes two designs to make 15″ mini quilts that are perfect as a centre piece of a dining table, hung on a wall, or as a small table topper.
They are super quick to piece together and make lovely hostess or teacher gifts. The colour and fabric options for these designs are limit-less. Very small amounts of fabric are required to complete each one, so these make excellent scrap-busting mini quilts.
Detailed, step-by-step graphics and tips on how to press your seams are included in this pattern. Blank block diagrams have been provided, for both designs, so that you can audition your colour choices with confidence. This pattern is aimed at the beginner quilt-maker.
Please note: Candle Mats are intended as a decorative item. One should never, ever place a candle directly on fabric, even if a fire-retardant batting or spray have been used. Instead, all candles placed on fabric should be in a self-contained container or placed on a plate designed to withstand the heat from a candle.
Requirements
Each candle mat finishes at 15″ square. The requirements below are for creating one candle mat:
- Each candle mat uses five different colours/prints. You will need scraps of fabric to represent each colour/print.
- One 18″ x 18″ piece of backing fabric.
- One 17″ x 17″ piece of batting.
- Two strips 2.25″ x 40″ for binding.
- General sewing and quilting supplies (i.e. rotary cutter, mat, sewing machine, piecing thread).
