Foundation piecing, commonly referred to as paper piecing, is a way to construct quilt blocks whereby the pattern is created by stitching the patches to the foundation in numerical order to create the design. The foundation material can be paper, muslin, lightweight broadcloth, etc.
Included in this detailed photo tutorial, aimed at beginners to paper piecing, are six paper pieced blocks that finish at 6″ square. Each block has been chosen as it provides a learning opportunity for a specific aspect of paper piecing. Once all six blocks are complete, you will have the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle any beginner/intermediate project. You can use the blocks to create a mini sampler quilt or table runner or whatever you like.

Requirements
You only need a small amount of fabric to complete the block templates. Four fat eighths, for variety, plus a fat quarter of background will be sufficient.
General quilting supplies are required. I also highly recommend the paper designed specifically for paper piecing, Carol Doak, as well as, investing in an Add a Quarter Ruler
